The Chairman Pharmaceutical Society of Nigerian, Osun State Branch, Pharmacist Omoniyi Ayodeji has debunked recent publication credited to an online media alleging involvement of a member of the society in the incidence of theft of medicines in an unnamed government hospital in Ile-Ife.
In his reaction,Pharmacist Omoniyi Ayodeji held that the speculation making the rounds on social media platforms by some people are lies from the pit of hell, explaining that drug theft was uncovered in a private Pharmacy and not a Government Pharmacy as reported.
He challenged any doubting Thomas to conduct independent investigation in order to unravel the sinister motive behind the matter.
According to Pharmacist Omoniyi Ayodeji,the Culprit is not a Pharmacist let alone a registered member of the society, adding that the person in question is already in Ilesa Correctional Centre.
He therefore implored the general public to disregard such report, saying the publication is in bad taste and the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigerian,Osun State Branch , frowned and strongly condemned it in its totality.
Pharmacist Omoniyi informed all and sundry that Pharmacists are the only legally approved and qualified professional saddled with the responsibility of handling and dispensing drugs by law in any organisation.
He expressed resentment and dissatisfaction over the proliferation and influx of non- Pharmacists who have invaded and taken over the practice for greed and thereby putting the lives of masses in danger. To this end, the general public is thereby enjoined to stop patronizing unregistered and unlicensed Premises.
Pharmacist Omoniyi Ayodeji equally expressed worries over proliferation of fake and substandard drugs warning of dangers of adverse drug reactions .
The State chairman of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria therefore urged government at all levels to aid their profession by beaming searchlight into the inimical activities of quacks masquerading as Pharmacists across the state while reiterating the commitment of the society towards giving its very best in delivering a professional and efficient pharmaceutical services to patients.
He similarly on behalf of the society appealed to government to ensure adequate availability of essential medicines in all government hospitals, saying doing so will ensure that people can have access to safe and efficacious medicines.
