The Senate has passed the long awaited petroleum industrial governance bill which has been pending in the national assembly for two assemblies now. Chairman of the joint committee on petroleum upstream, petroleum downstream and gas presenting the report before the committee of the outlined how the committee had managed to polish all grey areas if the bill that had caused hitches to the passage of the bill. Speaking to news men after the clause by clause consideration of the bill, members of the committee said the major aim of the bill is to unbundle the Nigeria national petroleum corporation for more effective coverage and monitoring. He said the passage of the bill is also to pave way for proper restructuring of the petroleum industry in the country with provisions that would allow the people of Niger Delta to benefit maximally from it. The committee says the passage of the bill will also put an end to the erroneous belief that Nigerian corporations belong to a particular group of n as the bill will now ensure earnings spreading to all Nigerians through the various projects that will benefit Nigerians.
