A 35-year-old housewife, Mrs Bukola Omotayo, has been dragged before a Magistrate’s court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, for allegedly stealing 15 bags of rice from a vendor.
Omotayo was said to be a sales staff at a rice shop located at Ayoola Street in Osogbo and owned by one Muyiwah Agarah.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Taiwo Adegoke, informed the court that the accused housewife stole the bags of rice valued at N232, 500.
Adegoke said that the accused person committed the offence sometimes in July, this year, arguing that the act contravened Section 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.
Omotayo pleaded not guilty to the one count-charge of stealing.
Her counsel made an oral bail application asking the court to grant her bail on liberal conditions.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Adenike Olowolagba, granted the accused person bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in the like sum.
Olowolagba ruled that one of the sureties must be a close relation of the accused person and the sureties must present three passport photographs, sworn affidavit to the court while their residential addresses should be verified by the prosecutor.
But the accused could not perfect her bail conditions and was taken to prison by the police.
The case was adjourned till September 6 for mention.
