Residents and motorists in Osogbo the Osun State capital over the weekend, shared their frustration with newsmen over deplorable condition of some roads in the state while accusing the state Ministry of Works and Transport of failing in its duties by turning a blind eye on most of the deplorable feeder roads within the city that would have eased flow of traffic on the major roads.

While condemning the Ministry’s negligence, the motorists lamented that, the government considered attending to the major urban roads while marginalizing some alternative roads having in the midst of the communities in the state.

At the various locations often witnessing long queue of vehicles being locked up in the traffic, discovered that it was either the nearest ring roads to such locations were totally impassable or it had assumed a death trap for any vehicle daring to negotiate.

A tour by some Journalists in the state to the affected roads, reveals two threatening points where gridlocks are always prevalent and annoyingly so, due to the impassability of the feeder roads that would have absorbed some of the vehicles endlessly waiting on the queue.

At Akindeko, Akinlade, Peter Ajibola at Alekunwodo, Wole-Ola Streets, Obalende, Kelebe and Aduramigba area all in Osogbo city as well as Abere to Ede among others, were battered with potholes making it a no go area for vehicles to consider it an option just as the adjourning which could have serve some of the vehicles extending the vexing gridlock had since been abandoned with government making no effort whatsoever to repairing the road despite continuous cries by motorists and residents living in the affected areas.

Few residents who spoke with newsmen lamented that, “Despite our cries on government to come to our rescue, this roads have remained as you have seen. We hardly make meaningful sales here because people cannot freely drive in to patronize us. As we are in the rainy season, it get even worst as the whole place would be flooded to even this veranda where we are standing".

Another road visited includes, Estate to Oke-fia road most especially deplorable condition of the opposite of old NITEL Osogbo office, these roads are fast becoming deathtraps and residents and motorists interacting with this paper feel government should step up its efforts as the negligence is affecting the economic activities in the state.

Some of the residents who also spoke with newsmen under the condition of anonymity condemned the state Commissioner for Works, Engr. Kazeem Salami for not making himself available to them as they have visited his office  on many occasions without meeting him for them to present their problems.

Nevertheless, the residents of the affected areas commended the efforts of the state governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for turning around the fortune of the entire state while urging him to extend his hand of fellowship to them as a matter of urgency.

Meanwhile, efforts by our Correspondent and other journalists to speak with the Commissioner for Works in the state, Engr. Kazeem Salami proved abortive as he refused to picked the series of calls and no acknowledgment to the SMS messages sent to his phone as well.
