Spain’s King Felipe will address the nation at 9:00 pm (1900 GMT) on Tuesday, the royal place told AFP, as the country grapples with its biggest political crisis in decades over an independence drive in Catalonia.

The address by the head of state comes two days after Catalonia’s regional government pressed ahead with a banned independence referendum despite a violent police crackdown that left scores injured.
