The Commandant, Peace Corps of Nigeria, Osun State Command, Patriot Ayinde Paul Kayode has accused an official of the Nigeria Police, Sergent Oluwole Oke with service number '359257' of attacking him.
The attack, according to him happened on Thursday along Ede-Ife road, Agbungbu village, Osun State, saying, the police officer rough handled him, removed his shirt buttons and broke his android phone.
He said the attack on him followed his intervention on the embarrassment meted on one of his officers by the concerned police officer.
"The police officer Sergent Oluwole Oke stopped the vehicle of the Peace Corps officer and requested for his paper and driving license, which he presented to him.
"The police officer later asked the officer 'why are you using head warmer after the President said there is nothing like Peace Corps in this country again' and subsequently seized the uniform of the Peace Corps officer.
"When I got to the scene and approached Sergent Oluwole in a peaceful manner that he should please release the uniform of my officer which he had seized, Oluwole was claiming that it was illegal for the Peace Corps to have used the uniform when the President said there is no more Peace Corps in Nigeria again.
"I then made him to understand that for the fact that the bill is still waiting government approval does not stop his men from using their uniform because the organisation is known and registered.
"The act of hatred created to Nigeria Peace Corps Bill by the officers and men of Nigerian Police Force led Sergent Oke to addressed me as a Stupid man, rough handled me, removed my shirt buttons and broke my android phone when one of my boys was trying to record his act of misconduct and disrespectful attack of the Commandant.
"All these happened after appealing to him to release the uniform of Peace Corps officer seized by him", Patriot Ayinde recounted.
He added that Oke intimidated him and his men with gun and teargassed them, saying despite all these horrible experiences, as a peace officer, he restrained from releasing his men to fight back because of the honor and respect he has for every uniform organisation.
While addressing the newsmen on the matter, the state Commandant, urged the Osun State Commissioner of Police to call his men to order and stop intimidating Peace Corps officers all in the name of selfish interest and unnecessary hatred by the authority of Nigerian Police Force.
