The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state took turn for the worse as the Secretary to the Government of the state, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti dumped the party for the Action Democratic Party (ADP).
Intrigues and power play that preceeded the governorship primary of the APC stirred acrimony in the ranks and files of the party, including Adeoti who withdrew barely 24 hours to the contest.
Adeoti and other aggrieved aspirants boycotted the exercise which adopted direct primary but the exercise went ahead and Bola Tinubu’s cousin and the incumbent Chief of Staff to the Osun state Government, Gboyega Oyetola, emerged the party’s flagbearer.
The fallout of the exercise fuelled speculation of an impending implosion as effort by the leadership of the party to reconcile aggrieved aspirants proved futile.
On Sunday, the sign became obvious when Adeoti resigned his membership of the APC and gave intention to contest the September 22 governorship election on the platform of ADP.
Along with thousands of supporters and chieftains of the ADP, Adeoti formally joined the ADP in Osogbo, the capital of Osun state on Monday, positioning him as the candidate of the party after a primary.
Shouts of ‘sheu’, an alias for Adeoti rented the air as the Iwo-born politician begin his new political journey in ADP and assured his supporters of success in the end.
Joined in ADP is the Deputy Chairman of APC in Osun state, Alhaji Azeez Issa Adesiji, who emerges the Acting State Chairman of ADP.
Adeoti defection is unsettling the ruling party who fears the exit of the former party chairman will affect the chances of APC in the governorship poll.
Speculations are rife that more chieftains of the APC will ditch the party to join Adeoti in ADP as they are not ready to work for Oyetola, who they believed is not popular in the state and forced on the party.
