In order to bring succor to motorists and to make the township roads passable for motorists, Osun Road Maintenance Agency (ORMA) has commenced rehabilitation works in the ancient Iwo community.

The General Manager of the agency, Engr Mathew Olu Olowokere, made this known while speaking with newsmen during the ongoing rehabilitation work in Iwo township, Osun State.

Olowokere, who said the development was in order to change the face of Iwo Land through rehabilitation of a stretch of 4.6km road network, noted that, the rehabilitation work was in line with the efforts of Governor Rauf Aregbesola towards rapid intervention and repair of roads not only in Iwo community but across the state.

According to ORMA boss, "the agency is on top of the situation to ensure that quality job is done to fix the affected roads on time as directed by the governor".

"ORMA has specifications, standards, moreover, we carry out tests on some of the materials before they are used, we also carry out control test on the road when work is ongoing" he emphasized.

Olowokere, who blamed short durability of some roads to abuse by road users through overloading, stressing that roads that are subjected to unlimited loading would not be durable.

The General Manager, added that indiscriminate erection of bumps by some communities on roads to control speeding, also contribute to bad condition of roads.

“It damages the road more, because these bump erectors use concrete with asphalt and the two are not related.

“Sometimes, these bumps contribute to accidents especially for the unwary road users who ply such roads and meet bumps unexpectedly.

“Those erecting bumps don’t follow regulations, no warning signs and even if they are to put bumps they should follow specifications.

“They should liaise with the state Ministry of Works, or the agency for better ways to limit speed on roads instead of erecting bogus bumps on roads themselves", Olowokere advised.

Olowokere who advised motorists to abide by the traffic rules and regulations while plying the roads, to enable site workers discharge their duty effectively, hoped for a more appropriate funding method for the road sector so as to perform its statutory duty maximally.

The ORMA boss however assured the people of the state of Osun to expect consolidation and value added to Governor Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola's economic foundations as well as expectation of more greater dividends of democracy from the incoming administration of Ileri-Oluwa.
