As SMEDAN holds open fair in Osun
Local manufacturers as well as small business owners in Osun have been charged to improve on their quality delivery as a means of encouraging consumers to patronize them thereby boosting the economy of the state.
Supervisor for Commerce, Cooperatives and Empowerment, Mr Bola Oyebamiji stated this while delivering an address at the 2019 edition of the Osun Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise opportunities open fair.
It was an opportunity for local manufacturers and Small businesses owners to display their wares and interface as Osogbo the capital of Osun hosted the five day event which brought together local craftmen, furniture makers, solid and liquid soap makers among others who converged at the SMEDAN secretariat.
Speaking further at the event which has as its theme: "Expanding Market Frontiers For MSMES" the Supervisor expressed the readiness of the present administration administration to continue to support the growth of medium and small scale businesses in the state in a bid to boost the economy of the state.
Oyebamiji who is also the Supervisor for Finance in the state pointed out that Osun is an environment dominated by the informal sector, hence the need for government to do all it can to support local manufacturers as well as small business owners if it is serious about boosting the economy of the state.
He explained that Osun government will continue to look for means of boosting the economy of the state because it is the only catalyst to any meaningful development across all sectors, noting that the Gnoyega Oyetola administration is aimed at touching the lives of the greater percentage of Osun people.
He explained that the present administration in the next few weeks will role out series of empowerment programmes for women and other small scale enterprises in the state, stressing that Osun is serious about improving the revenue.
He said, "the local manufacturers that we ignore, those small business owners that we underrate are very key and significant to the growth of any economy and the state government of Osun is not looking down on them because we know their worth.
"it is those little funds they have in their possession which they use for their businesses that eventually becomes something big especially if they get government support.
"as an administration, we know the importance of these people and we are not going to take them for granted, we are appealing to them to make sure that they up their game and improve on the quality of whatever they do.
"we want a situation whereby our local manufacturers will meet up to the standard demanded by consumers within and outside Osun in terms of quality of the products they turn out.
"we want every available fund both from within and outside our state, we don't want consumers going out of Osun to buy goods that can be locally produced, this is the way to grow the economy rapidly for the benefit of all of us and am sure we can do it.
"this administration will continue to look inwards to grow and develop our economy ". Oyebamiji stated.
In an address, the Director General, SMEDAN, Mr Umar Dikko commended the state government of Osun for always supporting small businesses to grow in the state, noting that it is evident in what was on ground at the open fair.
According to him, "the agency is positioned as a "One Stop Shop" for growing and resuscitating micro, small and medium enterprises in the country and we must commend the state government of Osun for having done much in this regard.
"our job in Osun has been made so easy easy because of the efforts of the state government especially on the creation of an enabling environment which has helped small businesses to grow.
Goodwill messages were delivered by government regulatory agencies such as : NAFDAC, Osun Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Standard Organization of Nigeria among others.
