Another problem imminent for the Chairman of Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, Hon Remi Abass, has he was dragged before the state Police command for alleged embezzlement and misappropriation of funds belonging to the council.

According to a reliable source, the Council boss was ordered to be arrested by the councillors and other members of the council executives who felt cheated by the alleged fraudulent action of the helmsman.

The problem according to the source, started when the council Chairman, Abass refused to remit a sum of N10 million naira into the purse of state government as being directed.

It was gathered that since the joint account between the states and local governments has been discarded by the federal government through the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Communication (RMAFC), the Osun state government has mandated all local government chairmen to withdraw N10m periodically in cash and bring same to the state secretariat but the councillors in their wisdom in collaboration with the carrier officers decided withdraw N20m, break it into two and share among themselves in their respective councils  while N10m was to be taken to Osogbo.

It was learnt that when Abass was accused of siphoning the council fund, he was said to have claimed that the booth of his car was broken overnight and the said money was stollen.

It was further gathered that Abass, his Personal Assistant and those who were privy to how and when the money was taken into his car were also nabbed by the police.

Confirming the arrest of the Council Chairman and his PA, a source from the security hierarchy informed newsmen that the case has been transferred to State CID, Osogbo for further investigation.

All efforts to get through to the embattled Chairman by our Correspondent proved abortive as at the time of filing this report as his phone number was not going for further enquiries.
