In their own efforts to tackle the current Coronavirus disease, the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, has taking a giant strides to curtail the spread of the deadly virus raging the world by sensitizing the entire populace on necessary steps to ensure safety.
This was disclosed in a press statement obtained from the Public Relation Officer of the Command, DSC Babawale Afolabi and made available to GTNews in Osogbo on Thursday.
According to the Command's Commandant, Adeyinka Oguntuase while speaking with journalists, officers and men of the Command, It is imperative to address the current pandemic even as it is part of the mandates as stated in section(3) subsection (J) and (K),which says that the corps shall provide necessary warning for civilian populace in times of danger and evacuate same from danger zones.
The statement said, "This necessitated the action of the corps on Tuesday 24th March 2020 to disperse buyers and sellers who converged on Oje market, Ede. Likewise, officers and men of the corps were at Ifon market to appeal to sellers who came from neighbouring states to sells their wares.
"Today, Thursday 26th March, Officers and men were deployed to mining areas especially Ilesa axis to educate miners on the issue of Covid-19 and the importance of taken precautionary measures to avoid the spread of the virus.
"The Crisis department swung into action almost immediately by deploying 300 officers and men into all the nooks and crannies of the State to ensure compliance".
However, the Command informed that, the sensitization do not exclude the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW and other trade associations as NSCDC Officers were deployed to address the commercial drivers/ motorcyclists.
"While speaking about the rumour making the round that an hotel facility operating along Estate Area, Osogbo was forced to close down due to a suspected case of COVID-19, the Commandant reacted that he got to know via the social media and he is yet to validate the claim but that undercover officers are already saddled with the responsibility to confirm the information" the statement added.
The Commandant appeal to the populace to adhere to government directives to ensure self protection and the country at large.
