I hereby condemn in strong terms, the brutality meted out to one Mrs. Tola Azeez at Iwo by some men of the Nigeria Police, Iwo division, yesterday. The action of the men was uncalled-for, unnecessary and totally out of order. Nothing more can be disappointing than seeing men who are commissioned to protect the citizens turning around to be the people's tormentor. Such assault on innocent citizens is a re-occuring one, not only in Iwo, but in the nation at large. This recent incidence perhaps would go a long way in putting an end to such police brutality in our land if properly handled, I am sure it will.
I commend everyone who ensured the attention of the Nigeria Police as an institution was brought to the issue through an intense social media protest. I commend all men and women of good conscience in the land and beyond, who stood up and demand for justice, I equally commend the Nigeria Police for swiftly responding to the call for justice and instituting trial of the officers involved.
One lesson to however take away from the incidence is that a bunch of broomsticks is unbreakable. If we confront every challenge bedeviling our land in like manner with utmost sense of cooperation as a community, we will no doubt achieve the needed and much desired change.
Conclusively, I urge for calm over the issue as I believe very strongly that justice would be served. I also appeal to everyone to continue to abide by the lockdown directive of the state government, as well as other precautionary measures to avoid the spread of the pandemic COVID-19. Stay safe!
