Osun State Government has been enjoined to urgently intervene in the malicious destruction of expanse of Cocoa farm worth over Six Hundred Million Naira (#600,000,000.00) at ldu-
Dagbolu via Ile-Ife in Ife East Local Government area of Osun State.
The spokesperson, John Fasogbon, who made the appeal while speaking on the level of the destruction at the farm land said the development had exposed cocoa farmers in the land to untold hardship.
Fasogbon, emphasised the need for both federal and state government to quickly come to the aid of the residents of the ancient Community as no fewer than 40% of Cocoa Plantations have been forcefully destroyed by some people claiming that king is the owner of the land.
He called on Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Solid Minerals, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Cocoa Association of Nigeria to investigate the matter in the interest of justice and fairness.
The Cocoa farmer, stressed that the destruction was done in company of an expatriate, Mr. John Bull with Sarun Yemi Oriowo, Silifa Olokose and Emese Odesan, on the pretence of searching for precious stones on the farm land".
He called on Human Right Activists to come to the aid of the voiceless owners of the already destroyed Cocoa farms in Ife land as the people were suffering in silence without anybody to fight for them".
"It should also be noted that such act done by the foreigner is a big slap on our Country's face, because, such act cannot be done in their land", he retorted.
He said failure of the state government to urgently wade into the issue may also affect the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR going into government purse.
His words, "I am calling on the government on behalf of various voiceless farmers that their farms have been forcefully destroyed by illegal miners.
"Many of these farmers were threatened by heavily gunmen if they up strut their operation's.
"Even very recently, a bail leaf was beaten in the palace for serving Sarun Oriowo Yemi a Court paper to stop the malicious destruction of cocoa plantation. "John bull an Chinese man pointed a gun to a farmer about to shoot him if not quick intervention of others" he lamented.
Fasogbon, who had also written an appeal letter through his solicitor to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, zone xi, Osogbo, also claimed that the illegal miners had destroyed his cocoa plantation worth N600 million during the ongoing lockdown while calling on the Police to bring these people to justice.
