As part of efforts of the state government of Osun to accommodate the most vulnerable in budgetry preparations, stakeholders in different sectors have met to review and validate a draft social budgeting study prepared by the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund(UNICEF).
The effort of the social budgeting study which is aimed at mitigating poverty especially among children, women and people with disabilities also examined the opportunities for expansion of the various sources of revenue for the state.
UNICEF, which is one of the state's major development partners also through the social budgeting study examined means by which social sectors of the state's economy can be improved to better the lives of the down trodden in the society.
Speaking while declaring the review and validation meeting open, Special Adviser to the Governor on Economic Planning, Budget and Development, Mr Aderemi Kolajo reminded participants that the draft is not yet the final copy.
He added that the state government of Osun, under the administration of Mr Adegboyega Oyetola is determined to continue to improve the lives of the most vulnerable in the society, hence the need for a thorough review of the draft to ensure that the masses of the state are adequately taken care of.
According to the Special Adviser, "The administration of Mr Adegboyega Oyetola is determined more than ever to raise the bar of governance in the State of Osun and the most vulnerable in the state are the primary target.
"We want to take our people out of the poverty line, that is why it is important that our budget is prepared in a manner that their needs are considered" Kolajo stated.
Technocrats and stakeholders in the different sectors of the state of Osun who reviewed the documents for hours, sited some grey areas in the draft copy which needed some forms of correction and improvement.
Speaking concerning the study which also aims at analysing the social budgeting trends and practices by the state government, the participants stressed the need for a more workable data to aid budget preparations so as to achieve results.
