A socio-cultural organization, Ikoyi in Isokan South Local Council Development Area of Osun State known as, Ikoyi Osun Action Council (IOAC) has condemned in totality a communal clash between the OPC and OPCI groups which led to the killing of one Bolaji Owolewa recently calling on law enforcement agencies to bring the culprits to book.
The council made the condemnation in a press release jointly signed by Asiwaju of Ikoyi kingdom, Dr. Hamid Kola Raheem who doubled as community leaders of Ikoyi and Community Secretary, Alhaji Olasupo Muhali which was made available to newsmen on Wednesday.
It could be recalled that the rivalry group on Sunday, 7th of June launched attack on each other which led to an unrest and caused fear to residents of both Ikoyi and Apomu communities.
The council described the brutal and barbaric killing of Owolewa as unfortunate and unexpected development for Ikoyi known as a peaceful and civilized community .
Party of the press release reads "The council is deeply worried about the rising tension in the community due to activities of some unscrupulous elements who are hell bent on breaching the peace of the community.
"It is not over statement that Ikoyi indigenes are known for peace, love, hardworking to expose the hitherto respected ancient community to ridicule".
The council however, charged parents, religious bodies, social organizations to educate their wards and followers on sound moral and befitting manners that characterize enviable societies.
The council appreciated royal intervention of Olukoyi of Ikoyi land, Oba Yisau Bantale Oyetunji Otunla, Kodaolu 1 and his counterpart, the Alapomu of Apomu, Oba Kayode Adenekan Afolabi for not allowing the outrage to escalate beyond control.
Also, the Executive Chairmen of Isokan local government and Isokan South Local Council Development Area were appreciated for their quick response to contain the unrest.
"We extend our gratitude to divisional police officer of Isokan LG and O. C Ikoyi Police station for their intervention to nib the matter in the bud" the release said.
