The head-on collision occurred at a road diversion axis when the commercial motorcyclist travelling inward Ota in an attempt to overtake another vehicle ran into the oncoming Iveco truck with the number plate KRD 43 XE which threw them off balance.
The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps,Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the motorcyclist according to an eyewitness was conveying three passengers, two males and a female, at the time of the incident.
He said, “Accordingly to an eyewitness at the scene of the accident, the bike man was on speed at the diversion when he overtook a bus and the motorcycle collided head-on with the truck coming from the other direction.”
He said the truck driver and the motorboy ran away to avoid being lynched by an angry mob.
Meanwhile, he added that the injured motorcyclist had been taken to Ifo General Hospital for treatment, while the dead female pillion rider has been carried by her relatives for burial.
Moreover, the Ifo Divisional Police Station has taken over the case with the accidented vehicle and motorcycle involved in the unfortunate crash now in their custody.
While TRACE commiserates with the family of the victim, it warned riders and drivers to desist from speeding and reckless overtaking at diversion areas in view of its attendant consequences.
