Few days to the Osun State governorship election, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Omooba Dotun Babayemi, has implored leaders of political parties and related stakeholders in the state to ensure a violent-free election that would be devoid of wanton destructions of lives and property.

Babayemi reiterated his call for a peaceful election in a statement issued by his Media Office on Tuesday and made available to journalists.

This is consequent upon apprehension caused by some reported cases of violence days to the election, a development that is believed to be heating up the polity.

"Election at any level does not worth shedding blood as it will come and go but the ripples of its after- effect could be more devastating. This,we should avoid because we are brothers and sisters. As such, we should never allow mudane things to cause us to do ungodly things and at the same time,go against the law of the land" he admonished.

According to him, the people should freely be allowed to vote for whoever they want without being coerced or molested; "democracy allows for free choice of representatives at different levels. So we should not kill, maim or destroy in the name of election, that will be ungodly and against the principle of democracy and the law"

He appealed to the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure that the people of the state and those concerned with the election were adequately protected.

"Fortunately, the Osun's election slated for this weekend, precisely on Saturday, is a stand-alone, so the Federal Government should deploy all its arsenal to ensure it goes without a hitch. In the same vein, our security should be up and doing"the PDP chieftain maintained.

Meanwhile,Babayemi has equally enjoined the people of the state to conduct themselves peacefully before and after the election, warning the youth against allowing themselves to be used for disruptive purposes.
