A Lagos State Magistrate Court in Sabo, Yaba, has officially cleared Nigerian singer Naira Marley, music promoter Sam Larry, and Owodunni Ibrahim, popularly known as Primeboy, of any involvement in the death of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
Presiding Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje delivered the ruling on Tuesday, citing legal advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), which confirmed that the trio had no case to answer regarding Mohbad’s demise. Also exonerated was Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde.
However, the DPP stated that the auxiliary nurse who treated Mohbad before his passing, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, along with one of the late singer’s friends, Ayobami Sadiq, would face prosecution for reckless and negligent acts, as outlined under Section 251 (e) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015. Their trial is set to take place at the Magistrate Court.
Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances, leading to widespread public outrage and demands for justice. Prior to his death, the former Marlian Records signee had expressed fears for his safety, with social media footage and testimonies suggesting he had faced harassment and intimidation.
Following the public outcry, the Lagos State Police Command arrested Naira Marley, Sam Larry, Primeboy, and others while awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
With the latest court ruling, the focus now shifts to the trial of the two individuals still facing charges.
