The Osun State Government has raised concerns over unauthorized visits by the reinstated All Progressives Congress (APC) local government chairmen to Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) across the state.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Dr. Akindele Adekunle, the government described these visits as unlawful and an attempt to intimidate healthcare workers while disrupting medical services.

“For clarity, no local government official has the authority to inspect or interfere with PHC operations without explicit approval from the Primary Healthcare Board in Osogbo,” the statement read. “Any genuine concerns regarding healthcare administration should be addressed through the appropriate channels, not through illegal and politically motivated intrusions.”

The government particularly condemned an incident involving Mr. Lanre Balogun, an APC chairman from Ilesa East Local Government, who reportedly conducted an unauthorized inspection of several PHCs, including Okeoye PHC (Ward 8), Irojo PHC (Ward 9), Okesa PHC (Ward 7), Ilemo PHC (Ward 4), and Ijamo PHC (Ward 5).

According to reports, these individuals were accompanied by armed thugs, creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity in the healthcare facilities. The government warned that such reckless actions not only threaten the safety of medical personnel but also endanger patients who rely on these centers for essential care.

“We urge all PHC workers to refrain from engaging with these illegal visitors. If they appear at any facility, staff should immediately report the incident to the Primary Healthcare Board in Osogbo and continue their duties without interference,” the statement advised.

The government also called on security agencies to intervene and take decisive action against any individuals attempting to disrupt public healthcare services.

“This administration stands firmly with healthcare workers and the people of Osun State. We will not tolerate intimidation, violence, or political harassment in our healthcare sector. Osun belongs to the people, not political thugs,” the statement concluded.
