The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has restated his long-held vision of how he believes he will one day pass away, peacefully, on a Sunday, after attending service and enjoying his favourite meal, pounded yam.
Speaking on the fourth day of the church’s ongoing International Convention, themed “The Overcomers,” Pastor Adeboye noted that death does not always result from prolonged illness. The revered cleric had shared this vision publicly two years ago.
“I will die on a Sunday after attending service, eat my beloved pounded yam, and then pass on without any sickness,” he said, describing the transition as sudden and painless.
Delivering a sermon titled “Possess Your Possessions,” Pastor Adeboye urged Christians to actively claim what rightfully belongs to them through Christ, likening the journey of faith to the biblical account of the Israelites who had to fight to possess the Promised Land.
He identified key areas where believers must resist spiritual opposition, healing, prosperity, fruitfulness, and long life, warning that the devil seeks to steal these blessings.
“Your greatest friend, Jesus Christ, paid a great price to purchase your healing,” he said. “The One who owns all the silver and gold paid so you would not be poor. Yet if you choose to remain poor, you will remain poor.”
On fruitfulness, he reminded the congregation of biblical women like Rachel and Hannah, who overcame barrenness through prayer and persistence.
Challenging Christians to reject all forms of spiritual oppression, Pastor Adeboye added: “It is what we tolerate that disturbs us. Stop tolerating sickness, poverty, barrenness, or premature death. Fight to possess your possessions, it’s your spiritual duty, made possible by Christ’s sacrifice.”
