Nigeria’s push toward clean energy has received a major boost as the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi) expands its free conversion training programme for automobile artisans and technicians across the country.
Speaking at the 2025 Nigerian Artisans and Technicians Exhibition and Fair in Abuja, Executive Chairman of PCNGi, Ismael Ahmed, reaffirmed that the initiative is central to President Bola Tinubu’s vision of transforming the nation’s automobile sector through cleaner and more affordable energy alternatives.
Represented by the Initiative’s Business Development and Strategy Coordinator, Omolara Obileye, Mr Ahmed noted that artisans and technicians remain the backbone of Nigeria’s automotive industry and key drivers of its economic growth. He stressed that the administration is determined to partner with them in advancing a sustainable energy future.
Director General of the Industrial Training Fund, Dr Afiz Oluwatoyin, underscored the need to equip local artisans with skills that meet international standards, while also addressing the challenges limiting their productivity.
Also speaking, the National Coordinator of the Association of Nigerian Artisans and Technicians (ASNAT), Comrade Adeshina Akinyemi, appealed for stronger government and private sector support to boost the capacity of members.
Stakeholders at the fair further advocated mentorship and knowledge transfer programmes to ensure continuity and sustainability in the industry, positioning Nigerian artisans for a central role in the clean energy transition.
