A building has collapsed on Abidjan Street in Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, with emergency responders currently conducting search and rescue operations at the scene.
The FCT Police Command said it received a distress call about the incident at about 7:45 p.m. on Monday.
A police response team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, ACP Edward Akaniyene, and the Area Commander, Metro, ACP Georgelyn Ufomadu, was immediately deployed to the scene.
The police team is working alongside personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Federal Fire Service (FFS), Security Service Department, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and other emergency response agencies.
According to preliminary findings by the police, the affected building had previously been marked and sealed by the Department of Development Control, Abuja.
The Police Command said no victim had so far been confirmed, but search and rescue operations were still ongoing to determine whether anyone was trapped beneath the rubble.
The Command added that investigations had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the collapse and its possible cause.
It urged residents to remain calm, avoid the affected area and cooperate with emergency responders to enable them to carry out the rescue operation effectively.
